What inspired the story behind House with a Blue Door?
 

The year and a half I spent working at a group home for mentally handicapped residents, many of whom had additional diagnoses like Down syndrome, Tourette’s, and paranoid schizophrenia. My main goal is to show this group of people as people, not stereotypes. 10% of my royalties will go to charity.
 

What did you find was the biggest challenge for you in writing this book?

The story's set in Early America. The protagonist is a Native American who becomes the focus for magic’s reentry into the world.

More good writing news: Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing picked up my second novel, The Red Wraith. It's a historical fantasy set in Early America. The protagonist is a Native American. Should be out this summer.
 

This manuscript's undergone several serious rewrites, and I had to murder a lot of my darlings along the way. I've already worked some of them into a novella, and I'm hoping to reincarnate more of them as sequels to The Red Wraith. We'll see what happens. For now,...
